I hope this message finds you well and that everyone made it safely through the challenges posed by the extreme weather earlier this week. Despite the two late start days, it was heartening to see students eager to be back in school, reconnecting with their peers.
A quick reminder for parents: any student who arrived late or was absent on Tuesday or Wednesday will be marked as Excused. Thank you for your understanding.
Looking ahead, we are gearing up for our first full week of the new year. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will feature grade level assemblies during Advisory, providing an opportunity to review Colt Expectations.
In observance of Holocaust Remembrance Week, our 6th-grade students will engage in a thoughtful book study. This is an important time for reflection and understanding.
As we transition from January to February, we also enter Testing Season. Next month, students will participate in various assessments, including the Interim STAAR Assessment for all students, the National Assessment of Educational Progress for selected 8th graders, and the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System for Emergent Bilingual Students. To keep you informed about upcoming testing dates, please refer to Covington's testing calendar below has context menu.
As always, your questions and concerns are important to us. Please do not hesitate to reach out. Wishing you a safe and warm weekend ahead.
Your proud principal,
Cedric Maddox
