Covington Connection Feb 2nd - 6th. 2026
Now that it seems we have made it through the annual freeze season that Central Texas loves to offer, we are back in the full swing of things here at Covington! This week is an important one for our students. On Tuesday and Wednesday, students will be participating in the state’s annual STAAR Interim Assessments in Math and English Language Arts (ELA).

I hope everyone is staying safe and warm as we endure the freezing and extremely cold weather. For those who may not yet be aware, Austin ISD has announced that schools will be closed tomorrow to ensure the safety of students, families, and staff across the district. We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as safety remains the top priority.

I hope everyone is enjoying this 3-day weekend! The weather has been beautiful, which makes it a great time to get outside, enjoy some fresh air, and soak up a little extra sunshine. This week, we will be distributing MAP Middle of the Year (MOY) reports for your child on Thursday and Friday. Please be on the lookout for these reports coming home.

We have finally reached the end of the first semester, and this last week before Winter Break marks the close of a period that has been filled with both challenges and important opportunities for growth.

The countdown continues, only two weeks until Winter Break, and you can already feel the holiday spirit on campus! We kicked things off with our Theater Department’s wonderful holiday production on Friday. Thank you to all the parents and families who came out to support our students.

I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and peaceful Fall break and Thanksgiving. Whether you traveled or spent time at home with family and friends, I hope the week provided a chance to recharge and enjoy the holiday together. When students return to school tomorrow, we will officially begin the last three weeks before Winter Break.

Thanksgiving is a time to pause, reflect, and appreciate the moments and people in our lives who bring us joy. I hope each of you enjoy meaningful time with family and friends next week.

I hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and is looking forward to the next two weeks as we head into Fall Break. When we return, students will begin taking their Middle of Year (MOY) MAP assessments. The MAP assessment is an adaptive, individualized test that adjusts the difficulty of questions based on each student’s responses. This allows us to measure each child’s current level of achievement, predict future performance, and monitor growth since the Beginning of Year (BOY) MAP assessment.
